Interested in learning more about maintaining bee hives, acquiring your own bee colony, and harvesting honey? Or, perhaps you’re finally ready to conquer your fear of bees. Either way, the two-day Beekeeper Training at San Xavier Cooperative Farm is the perfect opportunity to learn more about bee safety, keeping, and history. So, what’s the buzz about?
Join local beekeeping expert Jaime de Zubeldia of Sun Apiaries Farm for a weekend of hands-on learning. The first day of the workshop will be geared towards beginners, and will include a brief lessons on the history of beekeeping and staying safe around hives. After a real life hive inspection, you’ll end the day learning how to prepare for, acquire, and maintain your own bee colony. Beekeeping 101 has never sounded so fun!
Day two of the Beekeeper Training workshop, for intermediate students, will cover bee population dynamics, bee nutrition, and other more advanced beekeeping topics. After inspecting a hive on the property, students will continue learning, this time about harvesting needs, combing hives, and planning for winter survival. See a more detailed agenda here.
