Friends of Tucson’s Birthplace will host a special groundbreaking and birthday celebration just in time for its annual event: Tucson’s Birthday Party: Botanas, Bebidas and Birthday Cake.

There’s plenty to celebrate! Mission Garden will soon have some new facilities including an Education Center, public bathrooms, and electrical, sewer, and expanded irrigation systems. Thanks to voter-approved funds from the Rio Nuevo Multipurpose Facilities District, Mission Garden will be able to continue to serve the community as a living agricultural and cultural heritage park.

In case you hadn’t heard of Mission Garden prior to reading this post, Mission Garden is a nonprofit  volunteer-based educational organization whose primary mission is to preserve, transmit and revive the Old Pueblo region’s rich agricultural heritage by growing a series of garden plots that are representative of more than 4,000 years of continuous cultivation in the Tucson basin. By doing this, our regions rich agriculture is preserved, transmitted and revived – you can imagine how much good these new facilities are going to do for this little hidden oasis.

To celebrate Mission Garden’s new look, come hang out and snack on hors d’oeuvres catered by Lerua’s Fine Mexican Foods, margaritas and other drinks, and music by Tradiciones.

What a fulfilling way to spend your Saturday!
