What: Canstruction 2015
When: October 10th, 2015
Where: Park Place Mall, starting at 9:30am

Arizona ranks fifth highest in the nation for childhood food insecurity, and the Canstruction art competition aims to fight this hunger crisis. Canstruction addresses Arizona’s hunger crisis one food can at a time. As part of Architecture Week Tucson 2015, a group of design teams will take part in the sixth annual charity build competition. Their task is to build sculptural installations using only canned food. The cans are then donated to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

Not only are tons of food donated to the hungry as a result of this event (a total of 70,000 pounds since it began), but the public is treated to a visual spectacle while they shop. The displays take center-stage at Park Place Mall and shoppers can watch as the food can creations happen. Teams have eight hours to create their food can structure, which will be judged for winners. Their creative sculptures will then remain on display until October 18th.
