Farmers' Market Finds
  1. Tomatoes: It’s happening! Blushing red, vibrant green, taxi yellow, and every-color-in-between tomatoes are hitting the farmers’ market stands. Celebrate with the best ever homemade tomato soup, a bowl of soul soothing pasta, and this easy-as-pie salad.

  2. Verdolagas: Sure, these pretty green verdolagas (also known as purslane) are techincally a weed. But, that doesn’t mean they aren’t delicious! Learn about these delicate beauties here, then proceed to make Verdolagas, Sonoran StyleEnsalada de Verdolagas, and Verdolagas and Pork in Tomatillo Sauce.

  3. Potatoes: I know what you’re thinking: Potatoes have a season? Yes, yes they do. While potatoes can be stored for long periods of time in dark, cool places, they’re waxy, dense, and flavorful when they’re recently harvested. Roast them with honey mustard sauce, throw them on a non-traditional fig and goat cheese pizza, and add them to this hearty lentil salad.

  4. Garlic: Garlic is good for keeping vampires away. It’s also good for adding flavor to just about every dish know to man (in Gilroy, California they even put it in ice cream!). If you’re not quite ready to add garlic to your desserts, try using it in these crispy fries with galic dipping sauce, snackable creamy garlic hummus, and in any of these homemade salsa recipes.
