The Future of Pima County’s Food and Environment

Learn about the effects that genetically modified
food can have on our health, land, and society.

April 26, 2017

Upcoming Events

What: The Future of Pima County’s Food and Environment
When: Saturday, April 29, from 2:00-4:00pm
Where: Wheeler Taft Abbett, Sr. Library, 7800 N. Schisler Lane, Marana, Arizona 85743

Listen up Marana! You won’t want to miss out on this event in your neck of the woods. Even if you aren’t from Marana, you can likely afford some time to become educated on genetically modified foods, pesticides, and Monsanto – all of which affect Marana, Avra Valley, and Tucson.

This event will feature an in-depth presentation by “Going Against GMO author Melissa Diane Smith.  There will also be a short talk by Albert Lannon, founder of the Avra Valley Coalition, on the health effects some people experience from pesticide spraying in Pima County. A showing of “Molokai Mom,” a 30-minute film covering Hawaiians’ experience with Monsanto, will wrap up the event. (In other news, there go my plans of moving to Hawaii.) In all seriousness, successful opposition to GMOs would not be the same without people like those who are featured in this film. There will be a post-film discussion and the opportunity to sample tasty, organic snacks afterwards.

This is a free event that is open to the public. Hope to see you there!
