What: 13th Annual Gila River Festival
When: September 21 – 24, 2017
Where: Silver City, New Mexico
The 13th Annual Gila River Festival isn’t your typical festival. This truly authentic, four-day gathering will allow you to celebrate the bounty of foods, plants, and medicines native to the Gila River and its watershed. Don’t expect to be a bystander at this year’s Gila River Festival. Festival-goers are encouraged to participate in river outings, field trips, workshops, storytelling, cooking, and foraging as they foster a deeper connection with the Gila River.
Learn about native plants, people, and art from regional environmental activists, writers, artists, and farmers, who will present fascinating keynote presentations on ideas from “some of the Southwest’s most dynamic thought leaders”. And, for those who wish to take a more hands-on approach to learning at the Gila River Festival, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so! Each day, participants will have the opportunity to engage with the Gila River through activities such as rock art field trips, acorn processing and mesquite milling workshops, and kayak tours. As if all of that isn’t entertaining enough, there will be live music, poetry readings, and performances throughout the festival.
