What: Kitchens of Nogales: La Zona Gastronomica
When: Friday, February 24, from 2:30-8:30pm
Where: Nogales, Sonora

If you’ve reveled in the incredible restaurants and breweries in Tucson but still haven’t made it down to Nogales, the Kitchens of Nogales: La Zona Gastronomica tour is the perfect opportunity to see, taste, and explore Tucson’s southern neighbor. Join Border Community Alliance (BCA) for an afternoon of travel, education, and Sonoran food. According to BCA, “this tour takes you off the beaten path deeper into Nogales to the gastronomic zone of local Nogalenses centered around the street known as Calle Hermosillo.”

But what exactly will you find off the beaten path in Nogales, Sonora? First, some history: the monument to Mexican president Benito Juarez. Then, a taste of Sonora’s first craft microbrewery: Nogales Brewing Company. After hearing from the owners of Nogales Brewing Company (and drinking some beer!), you’ll head to the restaurant La Llorona, where Chef Fernando Luévanos will serve a tasting menu featuring central Mexican regional cuisine alongside aguas frescas, mescales, and tequilas. Lastly, you’ll head a little further down the beaten path to Calle Hermosillo, where you’ll find a variety of food trucks and a bar. As it turns out, “off the beaten path in Nogales, Sonora” translates to, “delicious food and drinks!”
