It was June 27. Outside, in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, the air was hot, dry, and singing with cicadas. However, as I stepped through the door of North Italia for their first community dinner of the summer, I was transported to the rolling hills of Piedmont, Italy.
North Italia’s first community dinner of the summer was an homage to the truffles, porcini mushrooms, and wine of Piedmont, Italy. As I scanned the four course menu that was placed neatly in front of me, I smiled with delight. Artichoke fritters, truffle croquettes, braised beef cheek, and amaretti cookies, each with their own wine pairing, filled the detailed menu (and, eventually, my stomach). Gathered around a long farm table with my fellow food-loving Tucsonans, I indulged in the culture and food of Piedmont, Italy without ever leaving Baja Arizona. Our host for the night, an Italian who truly knew his Piedmont wine and food, jubilantly described each dish and wine pairing, making the experience even more authentic and enjoyable.
artichoke fritter, robiola fondue, sorrel
sliced beef filet, truffle croquette, purple asparagus, lemon vinaigrette, arugula
nebbiolo braised beef cheek, chestnut risotto, porcini, sage

North Italia will host three more community dinners this summer, bringing locals together around the food and wine of various regions of Italy. Tickets, priced at $50 per person, include all wine and beverages. Now is your chance to experience the food and wine of Italy without leaving the comforts of home.
