If you’ve been looking for the perfect opportunity to dive into the world of native desert plants, this is it! Tanque Verde Ranch is inviting locals to join them on 60,000 acres of Sonoran Desert to celebrate the prickly pear harvest, hands-on. Foraging guides from Tanque Verde Ranch will lead visitors through the acres of prickly pear-dotted desert, teaching them how to harvest the juicy, ruby-colored fruits. After the harvest, guests will learn how to process the prickly pears that they harvested and turn them into margaritas, syrups, and savory dishes.

The prickly pear harvest celebration at Tanque Verde Ranch will last for two weeks, giving locals plenty of time to join the fun. Here’s a taste of the prickly pear harvest events scheduled over the two week celebration:

Aug. 17-21 & Aug. 26-28 at 9-10 a.m.: Prickly Pear Harvesting: Join the ranch’s team of nature lovers and venture out into the Sonoran Desert to collect prickly pears for tasty treats, including desserts and cocktails.
Aug. 22 & Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. – Noon: Prickly Pear Preparation: Join Chef Justin Macy and his culinary team as they demonstrate unique ways to prepare prickly pears for cooking and other tasty treats. Enjoy an on-property lunch.
Aug. 24 at 11-11:45 a.m.: Prickly Pear Savory: Chef Justin and his culinary team will interactively demonstrate how to create “savory” from the delicious desert plant. Enjoy an on-property lunch.
Aug. 30 at 11-11:45 a.m.: Prickly Pear Dessert: Satisfy your sweet tooth and join Pastry Chef Kim as she demonstrates unimaginable ways to use prickly pears. Enjoy an on-property lunch.
