Carpenter Bee

SKU: art-rjl-003 Categories: ,

Bees come in all shapes and sizes, and while they don’t all produce honey in complex hives, they all rely on nectar and pollen. This carpenter bee, for instance, only visits specific plants, but is still a very important pollinator. Carpenters, like this sturdy fellow, are solitary bees with no time for funny business.

“Carpenter Bee” accompanies Gary Nabhan’s article, “Honey, Don’t Forget the Pollinators,” in the Sept/Oct 2014 issue. Edible Communities gave this illustration an EDDY Award: “Critic’s Choice for Best Imagery, 2015.”

Pigmented inkjet print from digitally colored pencil drawing.
