May 3rd is almost here, and we’re breaking down all of the grub and drink options you can look forward to during the first annual Agave Heritage Week presented by Hotel Congress. Celebrations run from May 3rd through May 8th, and you can see a full calendar overview of events, in our first Agave Heritage Week post.

What: Cinco De Mayo Celebration
When: May 5th at 6:00pm
Where: Club Congress

Tucson, AZ 85701

The Cinco De Mayo Celebration with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers will feature Mexican Moonshine Tequila cocktails & shots along with $3.00 Dos Equis. Tickets are $30, and can be purchased via Ticketfly.


What: 2nd Annual Agave Dinner with Janos Wilder
When: May 6th, 6:30pm-7:00pm Mixer/ 7:00pm Dinner
Where: The Carriage House
125 S Arizona Ave
Tucson, AZ 85701

The Carriage House will host the 2nd Annual Agave Dinner with Janos Wilder. The dinner will feature 4 courses with Agave based spirit pairing. Proceeds will benefit Native Seeds/SEARCH. Seating is limited, so get tickets now! Purchase your tickets here via Ticketfly. 

Guests Speakers to include Sergio Inurrigarro (Master Mezcalier) and Rodrigo Medellin (Senior Professor at the Institute of Ecology UNAM). Medellin will be speaking about bats, and their importance as pollinators of the agave plant.

Guests will get traditional mezcal tasting glass, commemorative agave shot glass, a seed packet, and more!

Passe d Hors D’oeuvres

Wild Mexican shrimp, pickled nopalitos, local chiles, mizuna greens, Anita’s corn tortillas

Agua Amarga – Blanco Tequila, Apple Almond Orgeat, Lime, Averna

Second

La Codorniz Con Tequila

Tequila and lime cured quail, agave chiltepin glaze, mesquite smoked beef tongue, roasted pan patty squash, garlic confit, prickly pear and yucca root puree.

John Rose – Reposado Tequila, Demerara syrup, lemon, AZ Red Malbec, salt

Third

Dos Corderos Del Corazon de Mexico

Double chop of lamb rack with chipotle recado, pepitas, Native Seed/SEARCH mole + roasted corn vinaigrette, lamb shoulder barbacoa, peruana beans, guacamole, pickled cholla buds

La Mordidita – Vida Mezcal, Apricot Brandy, Dry Vermouth, “Mi Casa” bitters

Fourth

Magdalenas de Mezcal

Ancho chile+ chocolate cup cake, raspberry and white chocolate Mezcal truffle, coffee caramel, berries and whip. Served with fresh brewed coffee.


What: 8th Annual Agave Fest
When: May 7th, 6:00-9:00 pm
Where: Hotel Congress

Sample over 50 agave-based spirits and foods from different regions of Mexico at 8th Annual Agave Fest at The Hotel Congress! The event will also feature live music by Tesoro at 7pm, a Yelp! photo booth and a cocktail competition (see below). 

Guests will receive 10 tasting Tickets for both the agave spirits (1/2 ounce) and agave cocktails (4-6 ounces). Guests will receive traditional mezcal tasting clay shot glass, a commemorative shot glass, and mezcal chocolate truffle. Must be 21 years to age to attend. Tickets are $35.00 if purchased prior and $40.00 day of at the door. Purchase your tickets online through Ticketfly here

YAS QUEEN Three Wells, Vergano Luli Chinato, rose syrup, fresh lime, served over cracked ice and garnished with dried rose petals.

Maynard’s – Eddie Pain

Tequila’s Dirty Sister – Three Wells, Habanero Shrub, Orange, Bacanora mist

Congress – Abel Ducasse

Mayakoba Bliss – Three Wells, Reposado Tequila, Tomatillo, Orgeat, Lemon, House Peach Bitters, Ancho Extract

What: Bloody Maria Bar
When: May 8th, 10:00am

Hotel Congress’ famous weekend Bloody Mary bar is being taken over by Milagro and turned into a Bloody Maria Bar, featuring agave-based spirits, including Tequila Milagro, with nopalitos (cactus) garnish.
